SANTE Project
As I've been furthering my project, I realized I wasn't as happy as I had hoped with my roof line. So I have changed the roof, which has only altered the structure a little bit. With the new change of roof line it has allowed me to create a more dynamic entry sequence, and be able to start generating a facade I like.
In these two images I have not yet added the metal truss structure which will connect the glulam to the roof.
Here is what I am thinking for the wall section when wood paneling is used.
When we first started this project, we were asked to consider the idea of architecture as a puzzle. I decided to take a different twist and explore mathematics and how I could use proportions derived from math to create a design. I began to focus on the Fibonacci Sequence of 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13, etc., and how I could use this to form my design. Using strict numbers proved to be very difficult, so I decided to use them to create an overall plan, rather than use them to base certain elements of the building around. As of now, the plan for the center is based off proportions of 10', 10', 20', 30', 50' and 80'. These are broken up by 5' glass skylights that fold down to create glass walls, allowing for the emphasis to be on the proportions of the spaces. This is easier to see by looking at the site plan, and the floor plan.
The smallest site to fit my building was Tullamore Addition Lot 4. I'm planning on having the parking to the south of the building, and is something I'm currently working on.
I then took these proportions and created the floor plan around them.
What I have really focused on in this project so far is the floor plan and the structure. A wood structure makes up most of the building, and I chose to use wood because of it's warmth and beauty, and I believe it gives the large spaces a feeling of comfort. My structure consists of arched glulams, with an angled roof, and a black steel truss system connects the glulams to the roof. The contrast between the richness of the wood and the intensity of the black steel creates a unique look. This is shown in the section and the structural detail drawings.
What I now need to focus on is the facade of the building. As of now, most of the building's faces are blank. I am planning on using a combination of transparent and frosted glass with metal paneling. I have began experimenting with different elements for the facade, but have not yet come up with one I truly like. For the mid review, I have elevations, but they mainly just show the wrap around windows with the structure and the roof.
